It’s practically impossible to talk about Delta-8, Delta-10, CBD, and other hemp-derived cannabis products without mentioning Delta-9. The full scientific name for this well-known cannabinoid is delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol or delta-9-THC (Delta 9) for short. Whatever you decide to call it, Delta 9 is considered one of the most significant cannabinoid molecules that are found in cannabis and hemp. Hemp-derived Delta 9 THC is also the main ingredient in Melee Dose gummies.
While there are 124 known cannabinoids – and over 400 active compounds – found in these magical plants, the most notable is arguably THC (primarily for its potentially intoxicating effects.) There are other beneficial compounds that interact with your body’s internal endocannabinoid system to potentially cause effects that mimic feeling high. But, when someone refers to the effects of THC-based cannabis products, they’re usually talking about Delta 9.
Melee Dose believes in the therapeutic powers of Hemp-derived THC and makes Delta 9 available for customers online – without the hassle of visiting a dispensary or the need for a medical marijuana card. Our efficient and knowledgeable team produces some of the cleanest and most potent legal hemp-derived Delta 9 products on the market. Does Delta-9 Occur Naturally From Hemp?
Most people are familiar with the form of Delta 9 produced by the cannabis plant. However, most people are unaware that there are two actually two types. Hemp-based Delta 9 is almost identical in makeup to cannabis-based Delta 9. The only real difference is that hemp retains less than 0.3% of measurable THC once it is dried.
That said, because it’s the same chemical compound as the Delta 9 you’re used to finding in legal states, Hemp THC (or Hemp Delta 9) might still give you the “high” feeling that so many love and crave. Melee Dose works with high-quality Delta 9 oil to create premium products, from vapes to edibles, and more!
But, Is It Legal?
In 2018, the Farm Bill made hemp products containing less than 0.3% Delta-9 THC federally legal. The Melee Dose team goes to tremendous lengths to ensure all of our products are tested for quality. And most importantly, they contain less than the legal limits of hemp-derived Delta 9 THC in accordance with federal law.
It is important to note that laws surrounding cannabis and hemp are constantly changing. As of January 2023, 42 states, including Puerto Rico and Washington DC, allow for the sale and purchase of hemp-based Delta 9 products. However, a handful of states are still rolling our restrictions of these cannabinoids and other hemp-derived compounds. So before you place your first order, be sure to check if it’s legal in your state.
What’s the Difference Between Delta-9 THC, Delta-8, and Delta-10?
The chemical makeup of Delta 9 (C₂₁H₃₀O₂) is the same as Delta 8, except that one of the carbon-carbon double bonds is in a different location. To date, the majority of cannabis research has been on Delta 9 THC, so there is still a lot we have to learn about the similarities and differences between it and other compounds. However, from what we know so far Delta 8 might be less potent than Delta 9. Additionally, according to a 2022 study, some consumers experience fewer adverse effects (like cotton mouth and/or nausea) with Delta 8 compared to Delta 9.
Similarly to Delta 8 and Delta 9, Delta 10 also has a chain of carbon atoms with double bonds in its molecular structure. The placement of the double bond defines each cannabinoid: delta-9’s is on the ninth carbon, delta-8’s on the eighth, etc. Experts need more time to clinically determine the exact differences between the effects of these compounds on the body. But anecdotal evidence supports claims that all 3 will get you high – albeit at differing intensities.
What Are The Potential Effects Of Delta 9 On The Body?
Delta 9 THC offers potentially intoxicating effects by binding to the CB1 receptors in your body. The effects of this interaction might be felt almost immediately. Depending on the product consumed, the effects may last anywhere from 2-4 hours depending on your metabolism and other factors. Other forms of THC, such as delta-8 and delta-10, have similar chemical structures (and interact with the body in similar ways) to delta-9, but their effects may be slightly different.
After consuming products with Delta 8, you might experience short-term effects like altered perception, increased focus, relaxation, increased happiness, and a number of potential medical benefits. However, Delta 9 may also cause some people to feel anxiety, brain fog, cottonmouth, munchies, increased heart rate, red eye, and slowed reaction times.
When trying new products, we recommend starting with one dose (or half a dose) and increasing from there. Luckily, all Melee Dose products come with recommended doses and additional potency and serving info to help make things easier for our customers. We like to lay it all out so you know exactly what you’re getting and the best instructions for safe consumption.
How Long Does Delta-9 THC Stay In Your System?
To play it safe, it is fair to assume that THC will stay in your system for up to 30 days. But the truth is, it really depends. Frequency of use and potency consumed is a big factor: Delta 9 should potentially work through your system more quickly if you only consume once a month, versus every day. Additionally, different tests have different detection windows.
For instance, a urine (pee) test can detect THC for up to 30+ days. Whereas, blood tests often come back inconclusive after a day or two. On the other hand, hair can hold THC residue for up to 90+ days. Due to this, we recommend you exercise caution if there is the potential for an upcoming drug test. It’s always better to play it safe than end up being sorry and unemployed.
Is Delta-9 THC Safe?
Most people can tolerate delta-9 THC well, but it’s important to be aware of the risks and potential side effects before consuming new products. Delta 9 may potentially trigger the brain to release increased levels of dopamine, the body’s “feel good” chemical. This is why the sensation of being high might be so awesome. However, altering your body’s natural dopamine levels can sometimes have adverse effects on people with certain mental health disorders. While most potential negative effects of Delta 9 may go away as quickly as they arrive, to ensure you have the best experience possible, we recommend checking with your doctor or another trusted healthcare professional before trying new products.
