Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Enright.
Hi Katie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started Lavinia by accident. My original intent was to study theology and become a nun, but sometimes life happens and shows us a different path.
I was training for a marathon and started incorporating cannabis in my recovery, in particular I was making recovery balms. I was doing tons of research and I learned cannabis is a vasodilator—which means it increases blood flow. I also learned you could use it to enhance a sexual situation. I tried it and was hooked! At the time, the base I was using for my balms was coconut oil. While coconut oil is great for many things, it isn’t a great lubricant and can cause some not so fun issues down there. I grabbed my purse and ran to the nearest dispensary…sadly they didn’t have any lubes available, so I went to three other ones and the only lube they had available was also coconut oil based. Out of necessity, I started making my own. I would give it to friends and before I knew it, strangers had heard about it and were asking for some. That’s when I knew this is a company worth starting.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Starting this company has been a rollercoaster of emotions. We attempted to launch right before the pandemic. Our packaging was supposed to take two months and ended up taking eleven. I’ve been really lucky that I have incredible mentors that have been able to guide me when there’s a speed bump. Seeing people’s reactions to the product has kept me going too. I met a woman in her 50s that had never had an orgasm before using this product. She cried when she met me, and it was just so rewarding to know that our product oh.hi helped her.
As you know, we’re big fans of Lavinia. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The goal of our company is to enhance individuals’ sex lives through cannabis, which is a completely new category so a huge part of that is educational. We’re trying to normalize having healthy conversations about both sex and cannabis. That comes with a bunch of built-in challenges. Sex is something we don’t often talk about…maybe with friends at brunch, but that’s typically if everything is going well. Rarely do we talk about improvements that we’re desiring or changes we’d like to see. I hope that our product and brand enhance individuals’ sexual pleasure and give them a place to talk about it.
What makes you happy?
So. Many. Things!!! The simple things like my morning latte. I love sunrises and sunsets. Listening to audiobooks. Connecting with people.
I’m also pretty lucky that I live in a building that 6 of my best girlfriends also live in. I love going to walk my dog and bumping into a friend.
